Innovate UK funding secured for help to decarbonise our homes.
MOPA have been successful in their bid for Innovate UK’s award, through the Begin strand of funding, which is awarded to emerging talents and recognises the untapped potential of diverse innovators and businesses. MOPA will use the grant funding to develop a Home Retrofit Toolkit that will help individuals understand the environmental efficiency of their home and provide guidance for how to retrofit sensitively, efficiently and effectively.
In awarding this funding to MOPA, the judges recognise MOPA’s founder Hannah Wooller as a female innovator in the built environment. A part of the 12 month programme Hannah will be acting as role model to promote diversity and inclusion in innovation in the UK, and inspire the next generation of innovators.
The innovative Home Retrofit Toolkit will help homeowners understand the environmental performance of their homes and will provide a roadmap for retrofit. Toolkit recommendations will be guided by architectural conservation experience and aligned with Government best practice guidelines (PAS2035). The toolkit will achieve the targeted expertise of an architectural appointment, delivered cost effectively and at scale. In doing so, the Home Retrofit Toolkit will help homeowners run their homes more sustainably, with the associated cost savings to energy bills, and will more broadly supporting the UK to work towards it’s 2050 climate goals. As part of the route to market, MOPA will be investigating how the toolkit could be utilised on a larger scale - by local authorities, housing associations or estate managers.
Utilising the existing knowledge within the practice, and building on existing resources, the home retrofit toolkit will be developed for Beta testing over the next 12 months.
